I was reminiscing about silly things one morning while preparing for work and all of a sudden these overwhelmingly warm and defined emotions covered me. I started crying and questioning what I was feeling and trying to accept the realities of these emotions. I did not realize that the love that I have for a friend and confidant had changed silently to a more intimate friend and confidant relationship.  . I have not experienced this before and it took me by surprise. I treasure these feelings in my heart and hold it silent to my lips. In my poetry will be the only time I share.

Silent Appearance

Unknown to me that you could be.

Unwilling to realize my feelings are free.

No plans for me to be with thee.

My role in your life is interceding for you, not “being” with you.

Tears filled with shame.

Emotions of deceit.

Thoughts awakening reality.

Praying, “Lord forgive me please”.

I was not looking.

I did not see.

How could this be?

My heart is gasping for clarity?

Love came, but did not warn me.

Revealing of its appearance is taboo you see.

You’re my friend, my confidant; with you I am free to be me.

As the wind whispers silently over the waters, so will I.

Quieting the awakening in me.

Accepting the warmth of you from afar.

Reminiscing of our innocent friendship shared.

Acknowledging we do think in pairs.

Allowing grace to decide our place.

Twine would be by the Devine.

Unknown to me that you could be.

Unwilling to realize my feelings are free.

Love came, but did not warn me.

My friend, my confidant, what do I do?

This question, I will not ask of you.

As the wind whispers silently over the waters, so will I too whisper silently my love for you.

I

I wrote this poem in 2006. The inspiration for this poem is the result of an unexpected meeting with a friend, who is an ex-boyfriend. When we ran into one another I was assisting someone with medical services at a local hospital.  We had an awesome conversation, but based on the circumstances it would not be.  When you feel close to someone even after a relationship is over and you allowed a friendship to stay; no bitterness towards the decision for breaking up, have you ever wondered why not even when the circumstances are not in your favor.

IT NEVER STOPPED

When we met again,

But not as childhood friends,

I realized,

It never stopped.

When we reminisce of what was then,

I realized,

It never stopped.

When we laugh about life,

Of what has come,

Of what is now,

And what will be,

I realized,

It never stopped.

The “me” of then is still the “me” of now and

I realized,

It never stopped.

We feel it!

We see it!

We hear it!

But, do we

Answer it?

It never stopped…

LOVE.

The responsibility of parenting or caring for a love one can many of time cause us to place quality time with our spouses or significant others at the end of the day or wherever we can.  When those opportunities are available we have to take advantage of those moments in time to appreciate one another.

THIS MOMENT IN TIME

Forgetting the responsibilities that life demands.

Forgetting that time continues to pass.

Forgetting that others depend on us.

Forgetting that there is day and night.

Forgetting that the seasons do change.

When we are in the presence of one another,

We forget that everything else exists, because I control, with you,

The time we have to spare.

For this moment in time is for us to reconnect to the life that we committed to share.

Each night before I close my eyes I think of my love.  I say to my love…

I SAY TO MY LOVE

Before this day slips away

and the dew falls to the ground

and the night whispers good morning,

I say to my love,

“I love you!”

Love! Many of us have experienced it.  I wrote this poem based on stories from anyone who has shared with me their experiences of love, togetherness, and heartache, including mine.  The decision to stay or to depart.  The decision to work things out. The decision to stay amicable towards one another.  In several stories, I recall the exhibition of present love, however the persons in the relationship chose to show it.  One of my brothers, Fentress, loves to read this poem aloud using much  emotion.  He does the poem passionate justice as he recites it.

REMEMBERING US

When I think of you

I think of us

Whispers of melodic love songs…

“Easy, When I Fall In Love, Let’s Talk About It, You are My Sunshine, Brown Skin”

Need I say more

Conversations that comfort

Disagreements that blossom into beauty

Truths that hurt, but heal

Unspoken moments cradle us in love

Glimpses that are so seductively warm

Symbolic gifts that mirror our love

Stolen hours of secret passion that brands our hearts, souls, and minds

Looove…Sooo…Reeeal…

That even apart

We can smell the aromatic scents of one another as though the other is present

When we make love our way

It feels as though our beings entered the other and orchestrated passionate waltzes and exuberant sambas

We share awaken dreams of how our love truly is…

Full, unselfish, bold yet soft, honest, willing, forgiving, accepting the lovable embrace of apologetic symphonies, healing from our hands, loving from the inside out, respecting decisions of the other…

Umm! We loved!!!

When our love started to end, we embraced what love truly is to us

Our souls cried a deep mourning

Our tears flowed until dawn

We made our decision

Love truly is you…

My friend

This poem represents the intimacies of the earth and how it relates to human intimacy.  The earth romances all that inhabits it.  Relationships that allow each other to have mutual individuality, yet oneness with your mate can open the door for continual romance and growing passion.  Let your mind be free to receive the interpretation of this poem “SARRAS”(Setting and Rising, Rising and Setting).

SARRAS

You are the moon

I am the sun

As you rise I set

As I set you rise

Transitioning…

We breathe completely…

To inhale the other’s energies

And are renewed

The brief encounter tranforms a multitude of life cycles

Morning and Evening

Day and Night

Are ours continuously

Setting and rising

Rising and setting

We are one

I wrote the following poem to allow myself to love again.  Forgiving the hurt and refusing to allow that pain to hold me back from being loved and sharing love with the person that is only for me.

The initial title to this poem was “Creeping” then I thought change it to, “Welcoming You”, because I have given myself permission to allow the person that is for me to find me and welcome the love that is just for me.  I changed the title again, because I know who is in my life and desire only you.

I present to you the words to this short poem:

DESIRING ONLY YOU

As I sit relaxing in being me,

Loneliness starts creeping again.

Sneakingly tapping into my unspoken, unshared, and unmet needs.

Desiring for that half, that is only for me

To breath their presence, their being, their life into me and I into theirs.
