I recently celebrated the birthday of a woman that I consider my other mom.  The Lord has allowed her to beat breast cancer twice.  She was born in the 1930’s and had an amazing journey of overcoming difficult situations.  She is filled with faith, wisdom, strength, and laughter. I dedicate these words to her.

YOU STILL SOAR LIKE AN EAGLE

Strong, gifted, and black,

Those are just a few facts.

Your history is a “her story” that cannot be duplicated only replicated,

And the replication

Still could not depict the power from within of how you survived and maintained character;

It cannot be fully emulated by an actress’s interpretation of your spoken words.

You are a woman who has been loosed from the trepidations that your life’s journey has spewed;

Good, bad or indifferent.

Born in a country during a time where opportunity

Was not based on your ability or your aptitude to succeed,

But the question of “who yo daddy is and who yo momma is”.

You still soar like an eagle.

Tall brown edgy woman,

Your era was not completely ready for you.

At someone else’s will you had to constantly

Refine,

Confine,

Redefine,

Say you fine

To be allowed your inalienable rights that did not define your destiny.

Oh, but look at you know,

You refine time and grace,

You confine only to allow wisdom to show His grace,

You redefine

The who,

The where,

The what,

The why,

And the how

In your life.

Your existence is not an extension of selfish allowances by others;

It is because your actions of showering others with

Unselfish and unbridled love has made them your footstool.

You not only learned how to turn bitter lemon of fool’s folly into the sweet taste of lemonade,

But you learned how to use the remnants of that bitter lemon to strengthen your soul.

  You still soar like an eagle.

You a are virtuous woman in every sense of the Bible’s description.

Neither your husband, nor your children lack.

Only you know the many tears that you shed for their souls to be fed.

 The prayers that you hummed so death would not even mumble their names.

 Mentally and physically exhausted

From planning their next day before the morn of this day had struck noon.

 In that same space and time you shouted God’s promises He made back to Him,

Benevolently acknowledging that His words are on your lips;

Your mind is stayed on Him;

And your mind, heart, and spirit are renewed daily.

You still soar like an eagle.

To family and friends your love continues to abound.

The truth you tell regarding hidden tales has no place in your temple for them to avail.

 You listen and pray on what is shared and your council is wise.

 You recognize the needs of others and willingly share your blessings,

For this, blessings returned are manifold.

Your supplication unto the Lord for others is a testament to your faith.

 He has already fulfilled your needs and wants

Before birthed in your mind.

You still soar like an eagle.

Your robust laughter is proof that life has a way of being comical regardless of

What plight,

Developmental stage,

Christian walk,

Dramatic scenes,

Good times,

Bad times,

Age,

Race,

Creed or national origin.

You are blessed to be a blessing.

You still soar like an eagle.
