This year one of my daughter’s god dad’s, Pastor Orlando K. Winters passed.  He and his wife had been sweethearts from their youth.  Also, my co-worker’s husband David passed and they also, were sweethearts from their youth.  I have been in prayer for the words of condolences to express in poetry.  Finally, I was blessed with the words to write.  I started writing on December 22, 2014 and completed this piece on December 24, 2014.

THE JOURNEY

In the mist of whatever trial, you stood tall.

Even when you wondered, “How can I do it all?”.

Not knowing what the next day would hold, but always hopeful it would not take its toll.

Sharing funny stories of current and past happenings, you found laughter with your listener gasping.

 Realizing that memories of special moments will come and go of the days shared with your soul mate, and that they were the “most”.

 The ability for the mind to recall events, and the emotions that filled that space is a testament of God’s presence.

 Very little time to recover, from not having the rock of your youth, and the foundation of your years, getting back to what is called “normalcy” clearly takes time my dear.

 As each day dawns, there might be some struggle to make the wakened hours worthy to uncover.

 You close your eyes, traveling through the darkness, searching for the light that gives you:

 Permission to mourn;

 Permission to long for the physical presence of the love one gone;

 Permission to imagine his warm embraces as you embrace your emotions;

 Permission to have dialogue as if he was the respondent;

 Permission to feel your pain, scream your pain, and console your pain;

 Permission to bear all of your soul on God’s altar;

 Permission to praise God for comforting your mind and shielding your heart.

 Should of, would of, could of moments that cause second guesses to what is past.

 Linger not in the moments of second guesses, press forward living in acknowledging the “present of”.

 Treasure trough of memories and conversations too, will last a life time as each day is anew.

 Your senses awaken the existence of your soul mate in the existence of you is true.

 You are never alone.

 You, your soul mate and his memories, and Jesus, if you please, will journey together in threes.
